This is a great way to proofread drafts and hear mistakes you might miss when reading. It should work in MS Word 2002, 2003, and 2007, and in some other Office 2007 apps.

In Windows XP, go to the Control Panel and open Regional and Language Options. Click on the Languages tab and then on the Details button under "Text services and input lanagues." Click on the Language Bar button under Preferences. Make sure "Show the Language Bar on the desktop" is checked. The other options may be useful too.

In Windows Vista, start with the Control Panel and Regional and Language Options. From there, the choices may be a little different. If you are using Vista and can detail this more precisely, please contribute!

Once the Language Bar appears on your desktop, click in a Word document where you want the reading to begin. Then click on the Play button in the Language Bar.

If these instructure are incorrect or inadequate, please help to improve them. If you know how to achieve text-to-speech on other platforms or word processors, please let us know.
